Gone Gone Gone

Well they rounded up America’s worst and the finest ran aground

They shuttered up the plate glass and broke the concrete all around

We learned a new song about the right that’s always going wrong

The Titanic’s plowed an iceberg and it’s going down

In them good old days the dirt was hard where feasting dance was played

Now the silt runs from my nose and my ears as the dust cloud blows away

If we never learn a thing about a pendulum swing then we’re dumber than I can say

Captain’s called for the nose up deep into glacier bay

Looking out the window but it’s gone gone gone

Listen from the front porch and it’s gone gone gone

Anytime a speaker quivers

To the mind the sound delivers

You can listen close now but it’s gone

Nowadays we’re tuning in the poison from the usual uplink

And what used to smell like roses is believed to really stink

If you liked what’s coming down you’d be happier I think

While in the crash position I’m calling for another drink

Looking out the window but it’s gone gone gone

Listen from the front porch and it’s gone gone gone

Anytime a speaker quivers

To the mind the sound delivers

You can listen close now but it’s gone
